Cambodia’s prime minister has said that the nation is not going to develop any hydropower dams on the Mekong River, reaffirming a moratorium on mainstream dam tasks introduced in 2020.
Talking on the ground-breaking ceremony for the development of a 150-megawatt hydropower dam within the southern province of Koh Kong, Prime Minister Hun Manet mentioned that setting up dams on the mainstream of the Mekong would have “a big impact” on the river’s ecology.
“The Seventh-mandate Royal Authorities is not going to construct dams on the Mekong River, it doesn’t matter what the advantages are,” he mentioned, in response to a report on the web site of the Cambodian Individuals’s Celebration.
