Mumbai: The Election Fee of India Tuesday recognised the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Social gathering because the official social gathering and granted it the social gathering’s “clock” image.
The choice, which comes almost a 12 months after the election physique recognised Eknath Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena because the official Shiv Sena, offers a significant blow to the Sharad Pawar faction.
In its order, the ECI stated that the “check of legislative majority” helped the Ajit Pawar faction — which rebelled and broke away from the Sharad Pawar faction in June final 12 months — clinch the NCP image.
“Ajit Pawar faction loved majority help of legislators. (The) fee holds that Ajit Pawar is the Nationalist Congress Social gathering and is entitled to make use of its title and reserved image of ‘clock’,” the ECI order stated, including that the Sharad Pawar faction shall be recognised as a separate social gathering.
In accordance with the ECI, 41 MLAs from Maharashtra and 7 from Nagaland are with Ajit Pawar. Two MPs are additionally with the faction, the election physique stated.
For the Rajya Sabha election on 27 January, the Sharad Pawar faction can declare a brand new title, for which they need to present three decisions, the ECI stated, including that the faction has till 4 pm on 7 February to file their utility, failing which the MLAs shall be handled as independents.
The Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP has referred to as the event a “homicide of democracy”.

In the meantime, NCP Ajit Pawar faction employees celebrated throughout the state by bursting crackers. Ajit Pawar stated, “Our attorneys put our aspect ahead successfully and therefore we settle for the choice of ECI humbly.”
“We welcome the ruling of the EC…We stay in a democracy and any resolution may be challenged. Perhaps makes an attempt shall be made to problem this on the Supreme Courtroom or excessive courtroom… All I want to say is that the choice we made was appropriate and thru EC, our resolution has been confirmed appropriate,” stated Praful Patel of the Ajit Pawar faction.
