A Wednesday morning crash involving a tractor trailer carrying pure gasoline has closed a stretch of Interstate 295 “for the foreseeable future,” Maine Division of Public Security spokesperson Shannon Moss stated Wednesday night.
The truck jackknifed on the northbound facet of the freeway in Yarmouth at about 9:05 a.m. after the driving force reported hitting a patch of snow and shedding management.
Northbound visitors is being diverted at Exit 17. Southbound lanes stay open.
Moss blamed “unexpected circumstances and the extremely delicate nature of the truck’s hazardous load” for the continued closure. She stated, “reinforcements within the type of heavy restoration tools” are on their manner, and “Xpress Pure Gasoline LLC has engineers and workers on scene aiding within the restoration of the trailer.”
“We hope to have the freeway reopened by 9 p.m., however that’s topic to vary,” Moss stated.
