Joly urges Israel to de-escalate rising conflicts and not bomb Iran

by Nagoor Vali

International Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says she’s urging Israel to de-escalate rising conflicts within the Center East and never bomb Iran in retaliation for Sunday’s thwarted airstrikes.

Joly says she instructed Israel’s International Minister Israel Katz to “take the win” of getting stopped Iranian airstrikes and to not reply with a direct assault on Iran.

Israel and Iran have been in a proxy conflict for years, with Israel accusing Tehran of empowering teams like Hezbollah and Hamas to assault Israel.

Israel is extensively believed to have been behind the April 1 airstrike on Iran’s embassy in Syria, which killed senior navy officers.

The incident prompted Iran to launch its first-ever navy assault on Israel on Sunday, with lots of of drones and missiles Tehran says have been geared toward navy infrastructure.

Joly says she will probably be discussing extra sanctions on Iran at this week’s assembly along with her fellow overseas ministers within the G7 bloc of like-minded nations.
