Russia Requests UN Security Council Meeting After U.S. and Britain Strike Yemen

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia stated it had requested an pressing assembly of the United Nations Safety Council on Friday to debate navy strikes on Yemen by the US and Britain.

“Russia has requested an pressing assembly of the UN Safety Council on January 12 in reference to the U.S. and UK strikes on Yemen,” Russia’s everlasting mission to the United Nations stated.

The USA and Britain launched strikes from the air and sea towards Houthi navy targets in Yemen in response to the motion’s assaults on ships within the Purple Sea, a dramatic regional widening of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.

A spokesman for Yemen’s Houthis stated there was no justification for the U.S.-British assault and stated the Iran-backed group will proceed focusing on ships heading in direction of Israel.
