The imprisonment of political prisoners in Cambodia, together with Cambodian-American citizen and lawyer Theary Seng, was the topic of a letter despatched by Sen. Ed Markey to Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier this month.
“Since November 2020, roughly 250 Cambodian civil society and opposition occasion leaders have been focused in mass trials and confronted different judicial harassment, leaving many imprisoned, in exile, or defecting from opposition events,” Markey mentioned within the letter dated Dec. 13. “In March 2022, 20 opposition members had been convicted on fabricated crimes, together with exiled leaders Sam Rainsy, Eng Chhai Eang, Ho Vann, and Mu Sochua.”
