Varadkar says he will decline ministerial position if asked

TAOISEACH LEO VARADKAR has insisted he has no real interest in being a minister after he steps down as Taoiseach.

Varadkar is for now leaving the general public to take a position over what his future plans are after his shock resignation on Wednesday, nonetheless he has made clear that he has no intention of staying on in Cupboard. 

Talking to reporters in Brussels this morning as he arrived for the second day of the European Summit, Varadkar mentioned he’s “positively not ” when requested if he would contemplate a ministerial place after his successor is in place. 

“If requested, I’ll refuse. If nominated I’ll decline – no matter, I can’t keep in mind the quote. However, no positively not,” he mentioned.

Yesterday, Minister for Increased Schooling Simon Harris threw his hat into the ring and formally declared that he needs to be the following chief of High-quality Gael, setting him on a path to be Eire’s subsequent Taoiseach after different potential contenders dominated themselves out. 

Varadkar refused to touch upon Harris’s intentions this morning. 

“I’m not goning to say something about that till nominations shut on Monday. Besides to say that whoever is the brand new High-quality Gael chief may have my full help, completely,” he mentioned. 

When pushed on whether or not he’ll run once more for a seat within the Dáil on the subsequent election, Varadkar mentioned he “genuinely” had not made up his thoughts. 

“I wish to take a number of months to make that call,” he mentioned, including that he’s eager to do some extra constituency work.
